Troops 184 and 1284 take action to improve school garden
Troop 184 Juniors were working on their Gardening badge and the Seniors were working on the Locavore badge when they identified a need to help cleanup a school garden. The Juniors attend Magruder Elementary school and noticed that the butterfly garden near the kindergarten playground was overgrown and needed to be cleaned up. The girls made a plan and presented the idea to the troop and the PTA president to fix the garden. They quickly realized that they needed more help to complete the project on time and coordinated with fellow Girl Scouts in Troop 1284. The school was very impressed with the work that the girls did on the project and has asked them to help out with other projects in the building.
Pollination StationGS Troop 1293 completed the final Take Action step to their "Sow What?" journey by building and planting a pollinator garden in the Jamestown High School garden area. When the girls noticed the lack of pollinator plants in the garden, they wanted to help! The garden is currently used to educate special needs students about gardening and basic biology principals. The inclusion of pollinator plants will encourage the success of the school's crops and add an exciting element to the garden's educational purpose.
