Powder Puff Derby

Troop 1422 is hosting the 2022 Powder Puff Derby for Girl Scouts of Service Unit 140. The object of the competition is for the girl, with the help of her dad (or another adult), to turn a block of pine wood into a fast gravity propelled race car.
PLEASE NOTE – due to the current state of the pandemic, we are trying to minimize large groups from congregating. At all interaction of picking up of kits and dropping off of cars will follow GSCCC protocols.
Cost: $6 per girl/adult team fee (Note: Fee may be reduced - More information coming soon). Fee includes the official BSA car kit needed to create the derby car and a participation patch.
Dates:
November 8th – November 30th reserve racing spot for members of SU140.

Once the cars are delivered, a pickup will be announced. ETA first week of the New Year. We ask that a representative of each troop pick up the cars in order to minimize contact and adhere to social distancing protocols.
February 11, 2022* car inspection and impounding 6-8pm at the Enmeier Center @ Camp Skimino. PLEASE NOTE: There will be an area to be able to perform minor modifications in order in the case of a failed inspection/impounding..
February 12th* race day will begin at 9:00 AM at the Enmeier Center@ Camp Skimino. The race is currently scheduled to be a “virtual race” so there will be no spectators in the building. However this can change and will be communicated prior to the event
Registration: Participants will be able to put a temporary hold on their racing spot using the Registration Link beginning on November 8th. The official registration along with payment and permission slip will be made when you pick up your car kit.
Rules: Non-compliance with rules will make you ineligible for awards.

Important Information:
Racing sessions are divided by Girl Scout level (Daisy, Brownie, Junior, Cadette, Senior, Ambassador).
Girls will receive a participation patch.
Due to the popularity of this event and current COVID restrictions, we can not have the girls and guests attend. Current plan is to be able to stream the event. More information to be provided.
Official spare parts or a new car kit can be purchased at the BSA store in Newport News.
